Campbell Soup plans to change its name after 155 years

(CNN) - One of the country's most iconic brands plans to change its name.

Campbell Soup Company, which has been around for 155 years, wants to drop "soup" from its corporate moniker. Leaders say there's more to Campbell these days than just soup, and soup is now a smaller part of the company's sales.

So, it wants to be known as "The Campbell's Company."

"This subtle yet important change retains the company's iconic name recognition, reputation and equity built over 155 years while better reflecting the full breadth of the company's portfolio," said Campbell CEO Mark Clouse in a press release.

Campbell owns a variety of snacks and foods that include Goldfish, Pepperidge Farm and Snyder's of Hanover.

Shareholders will have the final say on whether the name change becomes official. They will decide the issue at the company's annual meeting in November.
