Payton Talbott releases first statement since stunning UFC 311 loss

Payton Talbott has made his first comments since a shocking loss at UFC 311 this past Saturday.

The 26-year-old bantamweight entered UFC 311 with a 9-0 record and was heavily favored to defeat veteran Raoni Barcelos, with odds for a Talbott win hovering around -1200 depending on where you looked. Barcelos, a massive underdog at +700, pulled off one of the biggest upsets in UFC history, outworking Talbott for three rounds to hand him his first loss.

On Wednesday, Talbott released a statement on the performance via Instagram, which can be seen below.

"The vet gave me my first scar," Talbott wrote. "May the skin heal itself to be strong and never split again. Lucky to have such people in my life. Fortunate to be able to learn valuable lessons. Still had fun."

Talbott has only been competing professionally since 2021. At that time, Barcelos was already seven years deep into his career with several UFC fights under his belt. On fight night, the experience gap proved to be too much for Talbott, who lost a lopsided decision.

Prior to that setback, Talbott had won his first three UFC fights, including a 19-second knockout of Yanis Ghemmouri at UFC 303.

Barcelos, 37, has now won two straight fights to boost his UFC record to 8-4.
