Luka Doncic suspension punishment calls after Mavericks star 'cheats'

BASKETBALL fans are convinced that Luka Doncic should be handed a lengthy ban for his actions during the Dallas Maverick's defeat to the Phoenix Suns.

The Mavericks suffered a tight defeat to the Suns who extended their record to 8-1 with a 114-113 win in Dallas.

But some fans think that things should get worse for the Mavs as they call for officials to suspend star man Doncic for "flopping".

Footage from the game appears to show the Slovenian guard flopping to the floor without contact during an altercation with Jusuf Nurkic.

Bosnian Nurkic was trying to shake off Doncic's pressure and moved the ball over the top of the Mavs star's head.

In doing so his elbow came close to hitting Doncic in the head, but footage appears to show that it didn't make contact with him.

However, Doncic immediately fell to the floor grasping his face and rolling around as if he was hurt.

Fans have been left fuming with the "flopping" and have taken to social media to demand that Doncic is banned for his actions.

A third commented: "This is bad, and then he rolls around like he got shot".

And a fourth fumed: "That's embarrassing for the league".

The NBA introduced rules to combat flopping last season, but players cannot be ejected if found guilty of breaking the new rules.

Instead players are charged with a non-unsportsmanlike technical foul and the opposition are given one free throw attempt if caught flopping in-game.

While players can be fined retrospectively if caught flopping on post-game footage.

San Antonio Spurs player Zach Collins was fined $2,000 after a game against the Timberwolves last week.

Doncic may have been feigning injury at that point, but did find himself suffering a real blow later in the game.

The star appeared to pick up a groin injury and has been listed as questionable by the Mavericks for their game against the Denver Nuggets today.

If Doncic is to sit out, Spencer Dinwiddie, Jaden Hardy and Quentin Grimes are candidates to receive increased playing time.
