The next Apple Intelligence rollout is likely to happen in early December, Bloomberg reports.
"The iOS 18.2 operating system update... is likely to arrive on the earlier side of December, I'm told," Mark Gurman writes in his PowerOn newsletter. He's eyeing the week of Dec. 2, which is about a week earlier than is typical for these updates. Apple's iOS 17.2 launched on Dec. 11, and iOS 16.2 came out on Dec. 13, 9to5Mac notes.
Per Gurman, the update will feature ChatGPT integration. Apple users can tap into OpenAI's chatbot when writing texts and emails on newer iPhones, iPads, or MacBooks, and Siri can direct questions to ChatGPT with the user's permission. ChatGPT Plus users can also connect their accounts and access paid features
There's a chance that Google Gemini may show up on Apple Intelligence eventually, but Gurman doesn't expect it until 2025 to give ChatGPT some time in the spotlight.
Also on tap for iOS 18.2 is the Image Playground app, and Genmoji, Apple's build-it-yourself AI-generated emoji. The Image Playground app will allow users to create AI images in three styles: Animation, Illustration, or Sketch.
An Apple Intelligence EU launch is expected with iOS 18.4 in April; it's been delayed there due to the Digital Markets Act, Apple says.
We went hands-on with iOS 18.1 and the first wave of Apple Intelligence additions, which included Writing Tools, smart replies in Mail and Messages, natural language search in Photos, and notification summaries. There were also updates to Siri that made it a little bit better at the stuff it was already doing. A bigger Siri update is expected with iOS 18.4.
