A 7-year-old boy who went missing from his Florida home Monday night was found dead in a body of water.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office delivered the heartbreaking update, informing the community that their detectives found Emerson Felix dead in a body of water near his Orlando home.
"We mourn Emerson's loss and extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to his family, his classmates, and all who love him," the sheriff's office wrote in a Facebook post.
The boy was previously the subject of a massive search after being last seen by his family at their home on Flintshire Street around 6:45 p.m. Monday.
A Florida Missing Child Alert was activated Tuesday around 1 a.m., and the sheriff's office announced they found the boy at 10:30 a.m.
There was concern for Felix's safety because of his age.
Officials are looking into the details surrounding Felix's disappearance and death.
His official cause and manner of death are pending review by the Medical Examiner's Office.
The Sherrif's Department declined to give Newsweek any further information than what is posted on Facebook.
Felix was last seen wearing a light cream-colored shirt, light blue shorts, and dark blue Puma slides.

There are currently five active Florida Missing Child Alerts with the latest issued on October 9 for 11-year-old Bradley Neal and 14-year-old Tramareiance Artis.
The children were last seen in the area of the 500 block of 6th Avenue South in St. Petersburg. They may be with Twanda Neal, 34, and Anthony "Amaruca" Davis, 49, possibly traveling to the Tampa Bay area in a red 2003 Mercury Mountaineer with Flordia tag number 89DJQA.
Jessica Beatriz, who was four years old when she went missing, has been on the list since April 2002. Her Missing Child Alert profile was last updated with an age-progressed to 19 years old although she would be 22 now.
Meanwhile, three Texas children abducted by their father in a double homicide are safe after authorities issued an AMBER Alert on Monday.
Authorities found 10-year-old Ninel Anseume, 2-year-old Elsi Anseume, and 4-year-old Abraham Anseume, who were last seen around 5 p.m. on Sunday in the 100 block of Palma Circle in Austin, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The Austin Police Department arrested 31-year-old Sherles Gregorio Machado-Hernandez, the alleged abduction suspect in the AMBER Alert, who was considered armed and dangerous, in the 900 block of Fairfield Drive in North Central Austin.
