The Indiana Fever's 2024 season came to a close after suffering a Game 2 loss to the Connecticut Sun in Round 1 of the WNBA playoffs.
Going into the offseason, a big concern for many Indiana fans was the impending free agency of All-Star guard Kelsey Mitchell, whose contract ended following the season. However, the organization has made it evident that it wants to bring the former Ohio State star back.
Although it is still unclear what Mitchell's intentions are, her latest appearance in the offseason is a good sign for the Indianapolis faithful.
On Monday, Mitchell, star rookie Caitlin Clark and her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, made a return to Gainbridge Fieldhouse as the Indiana Pacers and the Memphis Grizzlies went head-to-head in the NBA preseason.
The three were seen sitting courtside, and as many would expect, the arena displayed them on the jumbotron. The stars even showed off with a hug and some laughs.
Fans loved the recent showing of Clark and Mitchell, especially the fact that they were together with Mitchell's upcoming free agency, and took to social media to leave their thoughts.
"Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark are in the house for some Pacers preseason action," one fan said.
"Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell are here. Big ovation for them."
"That's a great sign Kelsey Mitchell seen @ the Pacers preseason game with Caitlin Clark. Kelsey is a free agent, and the Fever got a new GM. Duo combined for the single-season franchise scoring record in one game, it was 65 points."
"LET ME CRY i love my backcourt duo sm"
Clark and Mitchell became one of the top duos in the league, especially following the Olympic break. When the WNBA returned in August, the two turned their game up a notch.
Clark won three Player of the Week awards and the August Player and Rookie of the Month following the break. Mitchell, on the other hand, scored 20 or more points in 12 of Indiana's final 14 games, one of which she did not play for the majority. Both guards averaged 19.2 points per game on the season, tied for the most on the Fever. They also led their team to its first postseason appearance in eight years.
