State Rep. Brennan helps secure $700,000 for new breast cancer center at UH Parma Medical Center

PARMA, Ohio -- UH Parma Medical Center is receiving $700,000 from the state's biennial capital budget for a new breast cancer center.

State Rep. Sean Brennan (Parma), who years ago lost his mother to breast cancer, helped to secure the funding.

"I had approximately 100 requests for funding of different things," he said.

"I'm really proud of the $700,000 allocation. It was an honor to advocate for it and I was glad to be successful."

UH Chief Operating Officer of University Hospitals Parma Medical Center Dr. James Hill characterized the new breast center as a significant development for the local community.

"The center will offer comprehensive services, which means residents will have access to a full range of breast health services -- from breast cancer screening and diagnosis to treatment and plastic surgical reconstructive care -- all in one location," he said.

"This streamlines the process for patients and ensures they receive coordinated, high-quality care, including a breast health navigator."

The added funding is aimed at enhancing services, including increasing screenings with the hope of resulting in earlier treatment and intervention.

This new center will offer walk-in screenings and extended hours with options for same-day diagnostic workup and surgery consultation, same-day screening results, upgraded advanced imaging equipment, expanded access to specialized breast radiologists and surgeons and an overall increase in annual mammogram volume.

"With these services available locally, patients won't have to travel far for high-quality breast care," he said. "This increased accessibility can lead to earlier detection and treatment of breast conditions, which can significantly improve health outcomes.

"The addition of this center reflects a focus on proactive health measures and preventative care. By investing in comprehensive breast health services, the community can expect better overall health and potentially lower rates of late-stage diagnoses."
