What Kalen DeBoer thinks about Alabama football's first College Football Playoff ranking

Kalen DeBoer knows what Alabama football must do in the final four games of the 2024 regular season: Just keep winning.

But the Alabama football coach claimed he did not know exactly where the Crimson Tide stood in the eyes of the College Football Playoff selection committee until Wednesday, coming in at No. 11 as the only two-loss team in the 12-team field.

"I didn't realize even where we were ranked until just now," DeBoer said on Wednesday's SEC football media teleconference. "I knew it would be up there somewhere."

Alabama is one of four SEC teams in the top-12, joined by No. 3 Georgia, No. 5 Texas and No. 7 Tennessee.

According to the first CFP rankings, the Crimson Tide would be projected to take on six-seeded Texas in the first round of the CFP for a date against three-seed Miami (FL) in the quarterfinal.

Alabama's No. 11 ranking matches its standing in both the latest US LBM Coaches Poll and the latest AP Poll.

But this CFP is not what matters to DeBoer, he said.

"Each week is what it's about for us," DeBoer said. "If we do what we need to do, it will work itself out. And that's the approach we have. That's the approach we had after Tennessee as well. Just focus on what we call next-play mindset, next-game mindset. And that's the only thing that matters."

Alabama will face LSU, ranked No. 15 in the first CFP rankings, at 6:30 p.m. CT Saturday at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The game will be broadcast on ABC.

After LSU, Alabama will face Mercer, Oklahoma and Auburn to end the regular season.
