Schnucks robbery suspect allegedly points gun at officer before arrest

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A suspect in a Schnucks robbery in north St. Louis County allegedly pointed a gun at an officer during a confrontation before he was taken into custody.

On Friday, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office charged Maurice White, 50, with unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm and resisting arrest amid the investigation.

White's charges stem from a reported robbery from the Schnucks store in the 1500 block of Sierra Vista Plaza on the evening of Oct. 10.

According to a probable cause statement obtained by FOX 2, a Ferguson police officer was working secondary employment at the Schnucks store when she confronted a man who was suspected of stealing merchandise from the store.

The suspect, later identified as White, pushed the officer to the floor and attempted to run away, per the probable cause statement. The officer then caught up to White near the store exit and grabbed him by his hooded sweatshirt.

The probable cause statement states that the officer then deployed her taser, though White allegedly pulled out a pistol and pointed it at the officers moments later. He escaped from the encounter and ran away after that.

Investigators say they reviewed surveillance footage from Schnucks and a nearby apartment complex that linked White to the scene. After White's arrest, he admitted to being present at Schnucks, but not pulling a gun on an officer or possessing a gun in question with the alleged crime.

White was booked into jail in St. Louis County on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
