Sacramento diners bring holiday rush to limited open restaurants

Sacramento is usually quiet on Christmas day, with most businesses taking the day off.The options for dining out were slim, but the restaurants that were open were slammed with hungry customers looking to share a holiday meal. "Crazy! Super slammed. A lot of fun. People are coming in a great mood. It's jolly," said Lexi Hamilton, a manager at Scott's Seafood on the River. The restaurant was packed with reservations on Christmas night. The restaurant had a special holiday menu and modified hours but was still one of the few places open during the holiday in Sacramento. "We've done this for the last three years. My wife and I decided that after so many years of marriage and her cooking turkey for 50 years. This was a great way to pay her back that we go out for Christmas every year," said Jim Paul, who decided to dine out at Scott's Seafood. KCRA 3 checked in with downtown Sacramento's 7th Street Standard, who told us they were fully booked with reservations for the evening. They also had a curated holiday menu for patrons with bookings. Those who couldn't get reservations found themselves at Sana'A Cafe on 8th and K streets in Downtown Sacramento. "I found this cafe through my social media, so that was fun," said Bella Grande. "I was craving a matcha. I decided to drive over. I saw that it was super busy."The cafe was packed with patrons enjoying Middle Eastern drinks and pastries, taking in the holiday festivities one bite at a time."Just spending time and enjoying the present moment, wherever you are, is important," said Grande. Munther Jose with Sana'A Cafe told KCRA 3 that they've been busy all day because most restaurants are closed, which has boosted sales for the brand-new business."We got all types of people today. A lot of people just found out about the place today because everything is closed. So they just got on Google Maps, and they saw we were open," said Jose. The cafe is currently in its "soft opening" phase and kept regular business hours during the holiday. Scott's Seafood on the River and 7th Street Standard are currently taking reservations for New Year's. The two restaurants will have a special holiday menu, and they recommend booking reservations as soon as possible.
