WEATHERSFIELD -- Township officials and the Trumbull County Engineer's Office will dedicate two bridges in the community this month to veterans and first responders.

The renaming of one bridge on Salt Springs Road over Meander Creek will be the Weathersfield Township First Responders and Veterans Bridge and the other bridge on West Park Avenue over the Mahoning River will be named the Disabled American Veterans Bridge.

A ceremony will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 21 at the Salt Springs Road location, with the bridge located 0.1 mile west of state Route 46 on Salt Springs Road. Parking will be available at the entrance of the Mahoning Valley Sanitary District on Salt Springs Road.

Trustee Ed Whittaker said the dedication at the Salt Springs Road site will be for dedicating both locations. He said the public is invited. Also scheduled to attend are Disabled American Veterans Chapter 11 and officials from Trumbull County, the county engineer's office and Weathersfield.

Whittaker said these will be the first two bridges in the township dedicated to veterans and first responders.

A bridge on Austintown Warren Road was previously dedicated to fire Chief Randy Pugh, who served for many years as fire chief in the township.

In other business, trustees extended their sympathy to a local family on Rosalyn Drive who lost their home in a fire Aug. 21.

Whittaker said local efforts are ongoing, including a community GoFundMe to help raise funds for the family.

Trustees also:

*  Approved placing for auction a 1988 Freightliner fire engine for public use at a minimum sale price of $15,000. The vehicle is no longer needed.

*  Hired Robert Golden and Tod Paulsey as probationary firefighters effective Sept. 1 .
