College football Week 8 odds, schedule: Texas favored at home against Georgia in heavyweight matchup

Last week's meeting between Ohio State and Oregon lived up to the hype. Will Georgia at Texas this week follow suit? The Longhorns are favored by more than a field goal early in the week.

Texas has cleared the Michigan and Oklahoma hurdles with flying colors, but those teams appear to be not as good as preseason expectations. Georgia, though, is still one of the top teams in the country. The Bulldogs will be desperate for a win after already losing at Alabama.

Elsewhere in the SEC, Alabama goes to Tennessee in what almost feels like an elimination game for the College Football Playoff. Alabama has been struggling since topping Georgia. The Crimson Tide lost at Vanderbilt and barely escaped at home against South Carolina last week. However, Tennessee has had its own troubles, mostly on the offensive side, and escaped with an overtime win at home against Florida. Both teams have one loss. Alabama is a small favorite on the road.

The Big Ten has a pair of interesting matchups as well. Michigan goes to Illinois in a top-25 matchup, although neither team has been all that impressive lately. Michigan is coming off a bye week and already has two losses. Illinois needed overtime to beat a 1-5 Purdue team. Michigan is favored by a field goal on the road.

In a game no one had circled before the season, undefeated Indiana gets its first test against a 5-1 Nebraska team looking to secure bowl eligibility for the first time in eight years. The Hoosiers are favored by about a touchdown.

Playoff contenders Miami, Notre Dame and LSU get road tests on Saturday. The Hurricanes are favored by less than a touchdown at Louisville, Notre Dame is a double-digit favorite at Georgia Tech and LSU is barely favored at Arkansas. Will any of those teams be upset, adding more chaos to the playoff chase?

Five AP Top 25 teams are on bye this week: No. 3 Penn State, No. 4 Ohio State, No. 15 Boise State, No. 18 Ole Miss and No. 20 Pitt.

Here are the odds and schedule for every game featuring an AP Top 25 team, plus a few other notable games in Week 8.
