Unfortunately, the list of products potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes is getting longer. Earlier today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Savencia Cheese announced a voluntary recall of select soft ripened cheeses sold at retailers such as Aldi, La Bonne Vie, and more. The recall comes at a time when multiple products -- including frozen waffles, ready-to-eat chicken, and eggs -- are being recalled across major retailers due to multiple Listeria outbreaks.

"The few retailers that received the product have been informed of this possible contamination and are in the process of removing products from shelves," the announcement reads. Those who have any of the recalled products "should refrain from consuming them and return them to their place of purchase for a full refund."

After routine testing, the company identified that its processing equipment had been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Listeria monocytogenes is the species of pathogenic bacteria that causes listeriosis, an infection involving symptoms such as fever, chills, headaches, nausea, and more. Listeriosis is especially harmful for vulnerable populations, including pregnant people, senior citizens, and those with weakened immune systems.

Thankfully, only six products have been affected by the recall: Emporium Selection Brie, Supreme Oval, La Bonne Vie Brie, La Bonne Vie Camembert, Industrial Brie, and Market Basket Brie. While these products had limited distribution across U.S. retailers, take a look at your cheese stock to ensure none of the above products are included.
