YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) - Carl E. Baumgartner, Jr., 81, passed away peacefully in his sleep, on Friday morning, December 20, 2024, at Caprice Health Care Center
Carl was born February 8, 1943, in Youngstown, a son of the late Carl and Mary Alice Atwood Baumgartner and was a lifelong area resident.
Carl built a life of dedication and hard work, spending over 16 years as a diesel mechanic and later serving as a health care associate at St. Elizabeth Hospital for 13 years before retiring in 2007. His hands-on skills and strong work ethic were matched only by his kindness and care for others.
A proud Navy veteran, Carl cherished his time serving his country. He attended Highway Tabernacle and was a former member of the American Legion Post 479.
Outside of his work and community service, Carl found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing, camping, and woodworking and was an avid supporter of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He is survived by his three sons, Carl E. Baumgartner III of Farmdale, Frederick C. Baumgartner of Struthers and Christopher L. Baumgartner of Las Vegas, Nevada; four stepchildren, Donald (Erin) Kent of Macedonia, Patrick (Karen) Kent of Austintown, Alicia Kent and Erica Kent of Youngstown; 17 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; three half-brothers, Jim, Richard and Bobby Baumgartner; two half-sisters, Rose Slagle and Barbara Hester; his former wife Carol Baumgartner of Youngstown and many extended family members.
A stepson Joey Craig, a grandson, George Huston Jr., a brother, Albert W. Baumgartner and a half-sister, Sandra Baumgartner preceded Carl in death.
Family and friends may call from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Kinnick Funeral Home 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown, where a funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m.
Interment with military honors will follow at Tod Homestead Cemetery in Youngstown.
