A new phase of Lynchburg's Downtown Renewal Construction Project will shift in early January from the 1300 block of Main Street to the 1200 block in front of the Lynchburg Community Market.
For most of 2025, the 1200 block of Main Street will be closed to traffic and on-street parking, the city's Department of Water Resources said in a news release Thursday.
Access to the Lynchburg Community Market's two parking lots will shift during this portion of the project. To ensure accessibility during the construction, at least one parking lot will remain open at all times, the city said.

A connector ramp will be installed in front of the community market's awning, providing access to both sides. Pedestrian access to all businesses and residences along this section of Main Street will be maintained throughout the project, according to the city.
The construction along Main Street is part of Phase IV of the city's downtown renewal project, which started in 2016 and includes replacing century-old waterlines, improving sanitary and storm systems and beautifying downtown streetscapes.
The new construction work in the 1200 block of Main Street will begin on Jan. 6.
Traffic detours around the construction will remain in place. Eastbound access to the Lynchburg Expressway will be from 12th to Church streets, then Church Street to the southbound Expressway, or Pearl Street to back on Main Street to access the northbound Expressway.
Downtown traffic from the Lynchburg Expressway during construction will be signaled to take the Expressway to Main Street, Main Street to Commerce Street, then Commerce Street back up 11th Street to Main Street.
