How to Use Copilot to Edit Pictures

Copilot is Microsoft's own AI bot capable of answering questions, carrying out research, chatting about a range of topics, and generating images. It can create almost any sort of picture you can imagine, and it gives you the power to edit that picture as desired, changing the style, colors, background, and more.

Let's see how to use Copilot to edit pictures.

First, note that Copilot can't edit your own pictures. At least, not yet. That feature could feasibly be added in the future, as Copilot does have the technology to view your pictures and chat about them. However, for now, you can only use it to edit pictures that it created. Here's how:

Step 1. Open Copilot, make sure you're signed in, and then type in a prompt to generate an image. You can do this on the desktop or online versions of Copilot. You can make your prompt detailed or simplistic, and you're free to ask Copilot to create an image of almost anything. For this example, we'll look at a picture of a cute little squirrel.

Step 2. Wait a moment while Copilot generates a set of four images based on your prompt. Usually, this takes a few seconds.

Step 3. Select the image you wish to edit. Then hit the "Customize" button. This will take you over to "Designer" and load in your selected image, ready for modification.

Step 4. On the Designer tab, you'll see a range of different editing tools you can use to adjust your image. This includes sliders to set the brightness, contrast, and other visual elements, which you'll find near the bottom of the editing menu on the left.

Step 5. There are also different filters you can apply to your image. You'll be able to adjust the intensity of each filter using the slider.

Step 6. Finally, there are AI-powered editing tools to try, too. You can click on each one to activate it. The image here shows the effects of the "Blur Background" effect, which blurs the entire image except the subject - the squirrel.

Step 7. When you're done editing, you can hit the "Download" button and save your image in the file format you prefer (PNG, JPEG, or PDF). You can also use this menu to copy the image or send it to a mobile device.

If the above method is too manual or intensive for you, there are other ways to edit images with Copilot.

A simple way to edit images with Copilot is to ask it to make whatever changes you want. Again, you're free to experiment with a wide range of prompts and suggestions here. For example, if we continue with the squirrel image, you could ask Copilot to make it look more cartoonish or animated in style.

You can also ask it to make the image brighter, darker, more realistic, or add new elements

On some versions of Copilot, you can also use in-line editing tools to adjust images in great detail. Note that this won't be available for everyone, but if you have the feature, it opens many editing possibilities.

Step 3. Hover over the image to select individual elements you wish to change. You can blur certain sections or make subjects and specific items pop out from the image, for example. You can also use the buttons provided to adjust the style of your image, or click on Copilot's suggestions - it'll suggest possible elements to add or other ways to enhance your picture.
