Syracuse, N.Y. -- The Syracuse football team is on the verge of cracking the Top 25 in the USA Today Coaches Poll but the Orange has a lot more work to do to reach that level in the AP Top 25.

Syracuse was fifth on the list of teams receiving votes in the coaches poll, finishing this week with 24 points. The Orange hasn't finished a season nationally-ranked since 2018.

Vanderbilt was ranked No. 25 in the coaches poll with 85 points. The other teams standing between the Orange and a Top 25 ranking are Tulane (38 points), Louisville (38 points), South Carolina (33) and Louisiana (27).

Syracuse is ranked sixth among ACC teams in that poll trailing No. 4 Miami, No. 15 SMU, No. 17 Clemson, No. 23 Pittsburgh and Louisville.

All five of those teams cracked the Top 25 in the AP poll this week. The teams receiving votes in the AP version included Missouri, South Carolina, Tulane, UNLV, Louisiana-Lafayette, Washington, Arizona St., Iowa and Texas Tech.
