FARGO -- A Fargo animal shelter is looking for homes for "working cats."
The Homeward Animal Shelter has cats available through its Barn Buddies program, which allows residents to adopt cats for outdoor settings. The cats that are considered feral, or unsocialized, typically are placed in barns, shops, warehouses or other outbuildings to hunt rodents, according to the shelter.
"These are 'working' cats who have always lived outdoors," the shelter said on its website. "Most do not enjoy the company of humans and prefer to stick to themselves and their own kind. However, they are master 'rodent managers' and will do a great job of keeping your property free of rodents as long as you provide them with a safe, warm place to stay and access to food and water."
The program is a way to save cats who cannot live in a traditional home setting, the shelter said. The cats are available for a free-will donation. They also will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
