WATERBURY, CT (WFSB) - A 30-year-old man has died following a car crash that closed Route 8 northbound early Sunday morning.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene near Exit 30A at 3:11 a.m.
The investigation revealed that the collision was caused by a wrong-way driver.
A 2024 Nissan Altima was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when it struck a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee head-on.
The driver of the Jeep sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to St. Mary's Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Nissan, identified as Aaron Tyrell Vann of Waterbury, suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
The roadway has since reopened.
The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
