The Cal Poly football team's rushing game almost literally hasn't been around this season.
The 0-2 Mustangs have run the ball for a grand total of 33 yards. Their opposition has rushed for 303 yards total.
After going not very far against FCS member San Diego or former Pac-12 member Stanford, the Mustangs rushers will see how they do against NCAA Division 2 Western Oregon in Cal Poly's home opener Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN 1280 AM.
The Wolves are 0-1 after being pounded 50-10 by Division 1 Idaho State last week in Western Oregon's season opener.
The good news for the Mustangs is that the Wolves yielded 126 yards rushing last week. The better news by far for the Mustangs is that the Wolves gave up 430 yards passing.

Giancarlo Woods was Cal Poly's leading receiver last season, and he has been the most productive player for the Mustangs offense this season. Woods has caught 10 passes for 101 yards and a touchdown.
Jackson Atkins has been productive as the back-up quarterback to Cal Poly starter Bo Kelly. Atkins has completed eight of his 12 passes for 97 yards, with one touchdown and no interceptions.
Kelly is 35-for-60 passing for 375 yards. However, he has thrown just one touchdown pass and four interceptions. Atkins has the higher quarterback rating of the two, 159.27 to 108.00.
The Wolves didn't have many highlights to speak of against Idaho State. The defense gave up 556 yards. Western Oregon quarterbacks Kainoa Jones and Jordan McCarty were nine-for-23 passing between them for 97 yards.
McCarty was the team's leading rusher with seven carries for 36 yards. Fresh Ison ran for 19 yards and the Western Oregon touchdown on his only carry.
