FRANKLIN, CT (WFSB) - Emergency crews are battling a brush fire on top of Ayers Mountain Saturday morning.

Multiple fire stations are collaborating on a response effort along Pond Road, as the fire is located in a challenging area accessible only on foot.

According to Billy Eyberse, the Emergency Management Director for the Town of Franklin, the fire has spread across approximately four acres.

To aid in the firefighting efforts, a helicopter equipped with a bambi bucket is en route to the scene.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is already on site, with additional officials expected to arrive soon.
