SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. -- As Sevier County continues to grow, so does its demand for electricity. The Tennessee Valley Authority is proposing a new power line to improve reliability and meet the area's increasing energy needs.

"They're seeing some capacity constraints under certain contingencies during winter months, so this project will bring added capacity," said Shane Beasley, TVA's manager of transmission siting.

TVA is considering multiple routes for the power line, all of which would connect the Walden Creek substation to either an existing transmission line or a new connection point. Officials are gathering public input before deciding on a final route.

"What we're here to do today is talk to those property owners that are potentially impacted and get their feedback," Beasley said. "We get information from these in-person sessions that we otherwise wouldn't know."

For some homeowners, the proposed routes could directly impact their properties. Matthew Poff, who owns a rental cabin in the area, said he's concerned about the placement of the line.

"We had that land, we built it with a view of Pigeon Forge. It's awesome," Poff said. "I really don't want to have a power line up against it."

Pigeon Forge leaders acknowledge residents' concerns but also recognize the need for more electricity.

"Providing more power and the ability to get more power due to development in the area of Pigeon Forge -- it's good, I think, for the area for sure," said Assistant City Manager Eric Brackins.

TVA says it will consider public feedback before selecting a final route this summer.

"At the end of the day, you're not gonna make everybody happy when you're doing a project like this," Beasley said. "But if we can generate some trust and some understanding of how we make the decisions we make, that goes a long way."
