Lincoln family still displaced by tornado in June

LINCOLN, R.I. (WJAR) -- A Lincoln woman and her family of six have been forced to live in tents, cars and a trailer after their home was badly damaged by multiple trees during a tornado in June.

Karen McNally's five adult children all have special needs and as a result they needed to stay in Lincoln where they work. McNally said hotels were not an option. As a result, the family has been living in the driveway. The family recently got a trailer to live in.

The trees fell on the chimney on the side of her roof in late June as a tornado swept through Lincoln with winds as high as 100 mph. The trees caused more than $120,000 in structural damage. The town told McNally her home is not fit to live in.

"Thank God nobody got hurt because that tree landed right over the bedroom and the baby," said McNally. "All three levels of the house got wet from the water damage."

McNally said her insurance company has been delaying the process.

"I had to pay out of pocket to get a camper to live in," said McNally. "We have contractors that are willing to get started right away, and we're just waiting for the insurance to give them the okay."
