HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF)- Colder days are ahead in the Scenic City and the Tennessee Valley.
Health Officials are urging folks to be cautious as Flu Season is almost here !
"The good news is, the Tennessee Department of Health is reported that cases are minimal right now, having said that, with this weather change and this cold front coming in and the colder months right around the corner, flu season simply going to start picking up," said Dr Jake Standefer with Access Pharmacy.
Flu or Influenza is a contagious respiratory illness.
The illness can infect places like the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs.
Standefer believes now is the time to get vaccinated.
"So we want as many people to get vaccinated for the fluid as possible, to cut down all the cases here in our area," said Standefer. "So if we get a big group vaccinated, then that means less people are likely to get it, and thus less likely to spread it to people who haven't been vaccinated or immunocompromised, and more susceptible to those kind of viruses."
According to News 12's Meteorologist Chip Chapman Early morning temperatures are expected to reach mid to upper 30s through Friday.
As Students are on Fall break, Standefer says it's vital that students bundle up to protect themselves from the flu.
"The kids are out of school, so we don't require appointments here or anything like that. Bring them in. Let us get them those flu shots, and then take a couple weeks to build some immunity. And in the meantime, bundle up, cover your nose and mouth, try to follow those good hand hygiene things and get ready for flu season," said Standefer.
And With these cold temperatures, Standefer also encourages folks if you are sick, please stay home.
