Daily Wildcat Team and Player of Week 4

The Arizona Volleyball players celebrates a big play against Tennessee State on Sep. 1. in McKale Center. Arizona is 3-0 on the year.

Yet another exciting week for Wildcats fans has flown by, with several teams kicking the season open again. We look to the stunning performances from Women's Golf at the Folds of Honor Collegiate Tournament. Jordan Wilson of the Wildcats Volleyball team has also been crucial in upholding Arizona's 9-0 winning streak to open their season.

The Wildcats women's golf team would venture to Grand Haven, Mich. to play in the Fold of Honor Collegiate on Sept. 9 through 11. The Wildcats would coast in the tournament's first round, taking an early first place with a +1 over par. They were led by Carolina Melgrati who tied for third with a -2 under par. Charlotte Beck, Nena Wongthanavimok and Lilas Pinthier all were one stroke over par rounding out the team.

The second round would see the Wildcats struggle slightly finishing fourth on the day with nine over par and falling to second overall. However, despite the fall in the score, Melgrati would stand out with a -3 under par, tying first place on the day and first overall.

The third and final day would be the best for the Wildcats, as they would squeeze by Florida State University with +4 over par compared to their +7. Strong performances by Charlotte Beck, who would lead day three with -4 under par, and Nena Wongthanavimok, who had -2 under par, kept the Wildcats going until the very end to seal the tournament victory.

This season opening performance was the best for the Wildcats since the 2012-2013 season, in which the Wildcats would win the Mason Rudolph Championship after going second on the first day, and first on the second and third.

Arizona Volleyball continues their impressive 9 game win streak, its best since 2012 when Arizona went 12-0 to start the season. This recent outing at the New Mexico State Tournament proved to be another swift outing with a stellar performance from Jordan Wilson.

Wilson would lead the team in kills over the tournament recording 36 in total throughout three matchups. She also posted the highest hitting percentage on over ten total attempts in the first two matchups against Abilene Christian University and Texas Southern University. She struggled slightly against New Mexico State University only recording 10 kills and a hitting percentage of .118.
