Two oil and gas project remediation sites in Dacono, three sites in Firestone and two in Frederick were subject to falsified data recently, according to the Colorado Energy & Carbon Management Commission, a government agency.
People at two environmental consulting firms - Eagle Environmental Consulting, Inc. and Tasman Geosciences - allegedly altered laboratory data that they submitted to the commission on behalf of their clients, commission members said in late November. Last week, commission members said they remain confident that the falsified data created no new risks to public health.
The state commission's ongoing investigation will determine the degree to which the falsified data impacts remediation at the sites, members said in a press statement. Data manipulation affected soil, groundwater and inorganic and organic contaminant data.
In all, 344 oil and gas remediation project sites were impacted by falsified data, most of them in Weld County. Of the total, 48 are within the boundaries of 15 towns, including Dacono, Firestone and Frederick, according to the Colorado Energy & Carbon Management Commission.
