Dragon Ball DAIMA Will Finally Do the Demon World Justice

Dragon Ball DAIMA tells an original story seemingly set before Dragon Ball Super, sporting a premise that borrows a lot from the polarizing Dragon Ball GT anime. D AIMA features Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, and most of the series' biggest characters being magically transformed into children and desperate for a solution to their juvenile metamorphoses - sound familiar?

Dragon Ball DAIMA is going to pair Goku up with Shin, Universe 7's Supreme Kai, as they search for a fix. Audiences originally believed that Goku and Shin would be combing the corners of outer space ala GT, but recent trailers and marketing materials have indicated that Dragon Ball DAIMA will take its cast to the Demon Realm. This is an incredibly exciting revelation for Dragon Ball fans and will finally show off one of the franchise's most mysterious - yet overlooked - destinations in canon.

What Fans Can Expect From Dragon Ball Daima

Dragon Ball Daima is the latest series in the long-running franchise, with its original storyline taking the Z Fighters in a new direction in 2024.

The Demon Realm has been kept in the shadows over the course of the franchise. There are slightly conflicting accounts on the Demon Realm, but it's widely agreed to be located at the universe's peak in a place that's neither a part of the living realm nor Other World, despite its connection to both. If anything, the Demon Realm is an inverse to the regular universe's physical plane. Dragon Ball's extended universe material indicates that the Demon Realm used to be located in the Crack of Time's Time Labyrinth, which is somewhat of a purgatory that exists separately from the flow of time and other timelines. Oher Dragon Ball medit state that there are bridges between the living realm and the Demon Realm, like the Demon Realm Gate that Shula wedges open with his powerful cursed sword. When it comes to the Demon Realm's origins, it's said that the shadow world dimension was created 75 Million Before Age on Dragon Ball's timeline.

Mechikabura, Demigra, as well as other prolific dark wizards helped create this evil destination when they were imprisoned in a realm at the bottom of the universe. It's since gone on to become the home to Dragon Ball's many evil races, particularly Demons, where they're able to operate without impunity and beyond the knowledge of the Supreme Kai. The Demon Realm is home for evil races like Demons, Majins, evil Namekians, and dark wizards like Bibidi and Babidi. Magic holds greater power than science in the Demon Realm and fosters a very specific form of Dark Energy that makes the Demon Realm Race incredibly powerful. This Dark Energy cannot be utilized by Demons outside the Demon Realm, due to a seal that was placed in Age 850, but Demons have developed crafty work-arounds for this limitation. Demons exposed the Tree of Might's Fruit to Dark Energy, which resulted in a demonic strain that helps Demons access their power outside the Demon Realm. Towa and her Time Breaker army strive to break the Demon Realm's seal by collecting enough energy from across the universe.

How Daima Can Fix Goku's Character After Dragon Ball Super

Dragon Ball Super made controversial choices with Goku's character, but Daima has the potential to get everyone's favorite Super Saiyan back on track.

The Demon Realm has largely been avoided in the Dragon Ball manga. The Demon Realm's first official appearanece was curiously in Dragon Ball filler episode. Dragon Ball Episode 81, "Goku Goes to Demon Land" likely didn't know what it was getting itself into when it decided to tell a playful story about Demons and their homeworld. While training for the 22nd World Tournament, Goku travels to Fiend Village. Fiend Village is in the middle of a crisis because King Kress' daughter, Princess Misa, has been kidnapped by Demon King Shula. Shula intends to marry Princess Misa, so Goku bravely ventures into the Demon Realm to stop Shula and rescue King Kress' daughter.

In the Demon Realm, Goku defeats Gola and Melee - Shula's two guards - before he sets his sights on Shula himself. Goku and Shula's battle is brief as his Kamehameha is more than enough to distract Shula and the rest of the Demon Realm's inhabitants. Shula may not seem very impressive for a Demon King, but Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle attempts to explain the Demon's shortcomings through the revelation that Shula is merely a surrogate Demon King who has taken over the position ever since Dabura disappeared and was taken under Babidi's control. Curiously, the Demon Realm wouldn't be mentioned again until six years later, during Dragon Ball Z's Babidi Saga.

10 Things That Make Zero Sense About Dragon Ball Z's Other World in the Anime

Dragon Ball Z features a rich universe with a robust afterlife in Other World, but many details about this realm make no sense.

The Demon Realm is tricky territory for Dragon Ball because so many of its most interesting details are from non-canon media like Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle, Fusion Reborn, Dragon Ball Heroes, or Dragon Ball Xenoverse - the latter latter have devoted entire story arcs to the Demon Realm's development and evolution. Most of the Demon Realm's specifics and characters aren't actually canon, but the Demon Realm itself is canon to the Dragon Ball universe. Official Dragon Ball canon has featured characters like Spike the Devil Man, Dabura, the Majin, and Demon King Piccolo, all of whom have some connection to the Demon Realm. Dabura's battle against Gohan even features a simulated environment that's supposed to resemble the Demon Realm.

It's also revealed that Jiren's parents were killed by a Demon, which indicates that Universe 11 has its own version of the Demon Realm and that the Demon Realm concept stretches across the while multiverse. One of the reasons Dragon Ball DAIMA is causing such excitement in the fandom is because it's set to give the Demon Realm its biggest canonical showcase to date. Everything that Dragon Ball DAIMA reveals about the Demon Realm will become proper canon and give Dragon Ball fans a new framework to work off of when it comes to this mysterious realm. DAIMA is set to have major ramifications for the series' future now that the Demon Realm isn't just some fringe concept that fans need to play video games in order to understand.

Everything We Learned From The New Dragon Ball DAIMA Trailer

Dragon Ball DAIMA has been one of the year's most highly anticipated anime and its newest trailer raises some compelling questions.

The Demon Realm's hierarchy mirrors Dragon Ball's living realm. Along with regular Demons, there are Demon Kai - called Makaio in Japanese - and the Demon Supreme Kai above them - the Makaioshin. Dragon Ball DAIMA will push this concept even further and has even teased Degesu, a new Demon Supreme Kai. Degesu is accompanied by Gomah and Dr. Arinsu, whose exact titles have yet to be revealed. There's speculation that Gomah could be Degesu's attendant (like Kibito with Shin) or that he's a lesser Demon Kai. Dr. Arinsu's appearance is very reminiscent of Dragon Ball Super's Angels, like Whis and Vados. Each Supreme Kai has an accompanying God of Destruction. It's not unreasonable to assume that the same relationship exists in the Demon Realm and that Dr. Arinsu is a "Demon God of Destruction" or "Demon Angel."

Outside of Dragon Ball DAIMA, Dragon Ball Heroes praises Demigra as the Demon Realm's current God and ultimate power, although Mechikabura - the Demon Realm's creator - was more powerful than Demigra in his prime. Mechikabura was up for the position of Supreme Kai of Time, which ultimately went to Chronoa. Demigra may currently outrank Mechikabura, but he still has the ability to turn any Demon into a Demon God, which causes a lot of calamity in Dragon Ball Heroes. Towa, a female Demon Realm scientist and Time Breaker leader, receives an upgrade from Mechikabura during her pursuit to connect the Demon Realm with the rest of the universe. Towa is also responsible for the creation of Mira and Fu, artificial Demons who go on to succeed Dabura as Demon King.

Dragon Ball Daima: Every Character We Know is in the New Anime (So Far)

Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo and other members of the Dragon Team are confirmed to appear in Dragon Ball Daima.

There's been some frustration over the fact that Dragon Ball DAIMA is set before Dragon Ball Super and will seemingly be unable to advance the story as a result. There may in fact be a very specific reason whyDAIMA is set when it is and the focus on the Demon Realm could be the franchise's attempt to retroactively introduces concepts & characters that will return with a vengeance when the Dragon Ball Super manga returns. Toyotarou did so much with the Demon Realm back in Dragon Ball Heroes' manga, so he clearly has affection for this material. DAIMA's touching on this material gives Toyotarou more freedom when he finally gets around to the Black Frieza saga. Black Frieza's power seems insurmountable at this point, but the Demon Realm could hold a solution that gets teased in DAIMA.

Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission X revealed that King Vegeta previously used the Demon Realm as a secret training location. Beerus and Whis could have the heroes use the Demon Realm get stronger. Demon Supreme Kai or Demon Gods of Destruction in the Demon Realm could also be helpful figures who could take on Black Frieza. Demon Realm representation in DAIMA also means that it's likely to get a lot of attention in Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO. There's a deeply passionate community around Dragon Ball video games and Sparking! ZERO giving the Demon Realm more love could help make it even more popular and in demand from audiences. It's extremely satisfying that Dragon Ball DAIMA is ready to go all-in on such an overlooked element from the franchise and how its inclusion will inform Dragon Ball's future.
