The Idol wins Emmy Award despite show being canceled after just 5 episodes

THE Idol has snagged a win at the Emmy Awards despite being canceled after only one season.

The show, which starred The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp, was nominated against Hulu's Only Murders in the Building, and Apple TV's Palm Royale, and Physical.

Fans online were furious that the HBO Max series won over the other nominees.

"Lmaooooo okay bro, sure man...if your production gets canceled after 3 episodes you shouldn't even be allowed to be nominated for anything," based on commenter.

A second critiqued, "Emmys are officially irrelevant."

"They just be giving Emmys to anything nowadays," someone else posted.

A fourth commenter joked, "For fastest show to be canceled?"

"LOL," Mocked a fifth.

"Emmys just lost all validity lmao," bashed a sixth viewer.

"Why though?? It didn't last, that's silly," slammed another viewer.

The Idol was created and starred in by The Weeknd alongside Johnny Depp's daughter Lily-Rose, 25.

The Weeknd, born Abel Tesfaye, played Tedros on the series.

During the final scene of Episode 5, actors and extras filled the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, to watch Tedros perform.

An extra in the audience spoke with The U.S. Sun exclusively in June, sharing her experience on the show.

She revealed that The Weeknd delayed filming for the episode.

His performance neer made it into the show, as it closed right as Lily-Rose's character, Jocelyn, was preparing to sing.

The show was initially supposed to be six episodes but was cut down to five.

According to the source, the extras had to stay on set for 10 to 12 hours after they were told they would only be doing six to eight-hour days.

The Weeknd is reportedly partially at fault for this, at least according to the insider.

"He [The Weeknd] was late to set quite a few times because we were waiting on him to start," the source said.

The source also said the singer took an hour longer for lunch than the rest of the cast and crew.

The delays left concert-goers fatigued, as they were only provided one meal and mini water bottles the entire day.

The insider claimed medics and crew members assured them this was not how shooting was supposed to go.

The source said,

"Everyone was trying to stay upbeat, but they can definitely feel the energy in the room of just like, 'Hey, this is not working the way it's supposed to work.'

"The general consensus was that it was him that was late, not the extras. No one was saying it, but it was like, 'Yeah, he's taking his time. He's still in his trailer,' whatever the case may be."

None of the other actors in The Idol were on set at the time.

In addition to running late, The Weeknd made the crew reshoot the scene several times.

The insider said, "We reshoot the same scene a million times, but I think The Weeknd wasn't getting the shot he quite wanted.

"Because he was very hands-on like, 'Hey, like, let me do it this way. And let me do it that way.'"

A rep for The Weeknd did not respond to The U.S. Sun's request for comment at the time.

Another insider claimed that when the Blinding Lights singer was in character, it was "not an ideal experience and not one I am eager to repeat."

A third source said that The Idol was "never meant to be a long-running show. It was always... a limited series."

The show was always controversial, especially when it came to the sex scenes.

Although the show is canceled, it is still available for streaming on HBO Max.
