The SUV driver killed in a traffic collision involving a Route 9 Mountain Metro bus Oct. 12 has been identified as 46-year-old Anthony Durham.
Just after 7:45 a.m., Colorado Springs police responded to the intersection of Austin Bluffs Parkway and Regent Circle for crash between an SUV and a city bus.
The driver of the SUV, later identified as Durham, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The next day, he died as a result of the injuries sustained during the collision.
the police department's investigation revealed the bus had a green light and pulled into the intersection when the SUV struck the bus, according to a press release sent out Friday afternoon.
Two days after the weekend crash, a Mountain Metro driver died of a medical emergency on a Monday morning route. As a result of the back-to-back incidents, a statement was released to the public transportation's Facebook page.

In the statement, it was announced that the bus driver involved in the fatal crash received medical treatment but was released from the hospital shortly after. No other injuries were reported.
"Fortunately, no passengers were injured in either incident, but these events have had a significant emotional impact on our driver community," the social media post read.
This was the 43rd traffic fatality in Colorado Springs so far in 2024. At this time last year, there were 41 traffic related deaths.
