Western Mass. man remembered for 'unwavering commitment to family' after fatal motorcycle crash

A Palmer man who was killed in a motorcycle crash in Hadley last month is being remembered for his "unwavering commitment to family."

James Lis, 70, was riding his motorcycle north on East Street when a truck driving south began turning into a driveway and collided with the motorcycle around noon, the Northwestern District Attorney's Office said previously. Lis was taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield where he died.

James Henry Lis was born on Jan. 21, 1954, to Frederick and Marion Lis, according to his obituary. A lifelong Palmer resident, Lis was born in the town and graduated from Palmer High School.

Throughout his life, Lis pursued a career as a machinist, according to his obituary. He worked at American Bosch, Warren Pump and Tsubaki Chain and retired from the latter.

"James's personal life was marked by his unwavering commitment to family and his passions," his obituary reads. "As a lifetime motorcycle rider and motor sports enthusiast, James found joy and freedom on the open road."

Lis also enjoyed hunting and fishing and sharing these interests with family and friends, according to his obituary.

"A current member of St. Stan's Club in Three Rivers, his connection with the community was always close to his heart, though he never sought the spotlight for himself," his obituary reads.

Lis leaves behind "a legacy of love and family," according to his obituary. He is survived by his three children, four grandchildren, one great-grandson, four siblings and many other cherished family members and friends.
